Salary: Up to 35,000 Pro Rata

The Opportunity
A very exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified Dispensing Optician to join a well-established independent opticians in Bromley on a part-time basis.
This is a high-quality, low-volume practice where the focus is firmly on excellent customer service, premium products and taking the time to look after patients properly. There are no sales targets or unnecessary pressure – the practice is looking for somebody who genuinely enjoys dispensing and providing a personal service.
You’ll work 3 days per week including Saturdays, making this a particularly attractive opportunity for an experienced Dispensing Optician looking to reduce their working week without stepping away from quality independent optics.
The Practice
The practice has a loyal patient base and operates at the premium end of the optical market, with no NHS work.
You’ll be working with an excellent range of frames including Lindberg, Chanel, Tom Ford and Ray-Ban, alongside Zeiss lenses. Dispenses regularly reach 1,000+, reflecting the quality of the products and the personalised approach taken with patients.
The practice itself has:
” One testing room
” 40-minute eye examinations
” A team of around 7 people
” An experienced mix of optical and dispensing colleagues
” A predominantly private patient base
” A strong focus on quality rather than volume
The average patient demographic is around 45-70, so the successful person will need to be comfortable building relationships, discussing premium products and providing knowledgeable advice rather than taking a heavily sales-led approach.
The Role
As the Dispensing Optician, you’ll play an important part in delivering the level of service patients have come to expect.
Your responsibilities will include:
” Providing a high standard of professional dispensing
” Advising patients on premium frames and lens options
” Confidently explaining the benefits of different products
” Taking accurate measurements and ensuring an excellent fit
” Working with complex and higher-value prescriptions
” Providing adjustments, fittings and ongoing aftercare
” Supporting pre-screening when required
” Building strong relationships with returning patients
” Working closely with the Optometrist and wider practice team
” Helping maintain the relaxed, professional atmosphere of the practice
With around 8-10 dispenses per day, the emphasis is on giving patients a quality experience rather than simply chasing volume.
Salary, Hours & Benefits
” Up to 35,000 Pro Rata
” 3 days per week

” Weekday hours approximately 9:30am – 5:00pm
” Saturday hours 9:00am – 5:00pm
” No sales targets

The practice is centrally located in Bromley with good public transport links. Parking is also available locally, although this is chargeable.
What Are They Looking For?
To be considered, you’ll need to be a qualified Dispensing Optician.
They’re particularly interested in somebody who:

” Is comfortable recommending products based on individual needs
” Has a friendly, professional and personable approach
” Ideally has experience within an independent or premium optical environment

This would suit an experienced Dispensing Optician who enjoys the traditional independent side of optics – getting to know patients, using their dispensing knowledge properly and working with excellent products without the pressure of aggressive sales targets.
