Dispensing Optician Manager – Independent Practice
Near Ferndown | 40,000- 45,000 DOE Profit-Share Bonus | Full-Time | No Sundays or Bank Holidays
Are you an experienced Dispensing Optician with management experience looking for a role where you can genuinely have an influence on how a practice is run?
We’re working with a well-established independent optical group that is looking for a Dispensing Optician Manager to take the lead at one of its practices near Ferndown.
The current Branch Manager is retiring after 10 years with the business, so this is a rare opportunity to take over an established practice, experienced team and loyal patient base – while still having the freedom to bring your own ideas and personality to the role.
The Practice
This is a high-quality independent environment with a strong emphasis on personal service and building long-term patient relationships.
The practice has a smaller, close-knit team, allowing them to offer a much more personal experience than you would typically find within a larger multiple.
Although they cater for a range of budgets, the practice has a strong premium offering, with an average dispense of around 500.
You’ll work with products including:
” Silhouette
” Maui Jim
” Prada
” Ray-Ban
” Essilor lenses
” Occasional Zeiss products
There is also free parking at the rear of the practice and good nearby transport links.
More Than Just a DO Role
This is a genuine management position where you’ll have the autonomy to make decisions and help drive the practice forward.
Alongside providing an excellent dispensing service, you’ll be responsible for areas including:
” Leading and motivating the team
” Maintaining excellent standards of patient care
” Business development and practice performance
” Having input into frame selection and ordering
” Supporting and developing your team
” Staff reviews and performance management
” Handling wider management responsibilities when required
” Helping take an already established practice to its next stage of development
They’re looking for someone who combines a commercial head with a genuinely caring approach to both patients and staff.
What Are We Looking For?
You’ll need to be a GOC-registered Dispensing Optician with previous store management and team leadership experience.
More importantly, they’re looking for someone who is:

” Commercially aware and comfortable driving performance
” Passionate about quality eyewear and dispensing
” Reliable and happy taking ownership of the practice
” Able to build strong relationships with an established patient base

What’s on Offer?
” 40,000- 45,000 DOE
” Profit-share bonus scheme – 10% of branch profit shared amongst the team
” 5 weeks’ holiday Bank Holidays
” No Sundays
” No Bank Holiday working
” Full-time, 5 days per week
” Typical hours 9am-5pm
” Saturdays 9am-4:30pm
” Potential for one Saturday off per month for the right person
” 4 days may also be considered

Why Is the Role Available?
The existing Branch Manager is retiring after 10 years with the practice, so this isn’t a role that has become available because of problems within the team or business.
They are ideally looking for someone to join around January, although they would happily bring the right person on sooner if available.
The aim is to find someone who can continue the caring, personal approach the practice is known for, while bringing the leadership, commercial awareness and drive to take it forward.
