The Opportunity
A very exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Optical Assistant to join a boutique independent optical practice in South West London (located near Wimbledon Park).
This is a small, personal practice where the focus is very much on quality rather than volume. You’ll work closely alongside the Optometrist/owner and an experienced part-time Optical Assistant, becoming an important part of the practice rather than simply another member of a large team.
They’re looking for somebody who can take ownership of the dispensing side of the patient journey, allowing the Optometrist to concentrate more of their time on clinical work.
For the right person, there’s also the opportunity to become involved in management responsibilities, social media and the future development of the practice.
The Role
This is a varied position where you’ll have the opportunity to get involved throughout the practice, including:
- Providing a friendly and personal experience from the moment patients arrive
- Confidently dispensing spectacles
- Helping patients with frame and lens selection
- Taking ownership of the dispensing side of the patient journey
- Frame ordering and helping manage the practice’s eyewear collection
- General day-to-day support within the practice
- Building relationships with returning patients
- Getting involved with social media and practice development
- Potentially taking on additional management responsibilities as the role develops
- Ideally, being able to trace lenses and assemble spectacles
They’re particularly interested in somebody who is personable, friendly and naturally strong with customers, alongside having good optical knowledge.
The Practice
This isn’t a large high-street multiple. It’s a boutique independent practice with a carefully selected eyewear collection and a much more personal approach to its patients.
The practice has one testing room and a small team, so you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with the owner and genuinely make the position your own.
If you’re somebody who likes having responsibility and being involved in more than just dispensing, this could be a particularly good environment.
Salary, Hours & Benefits
- £27,000 – £30,000 salary
- Full-time, permanent position
- 9:30am to 6:00pm on weekdays and 9:30am to 5:00pm on Saturdays
- Closed between Christmas and New Year
- Free pair of glasses every year
- Opportunity to take on management responsibilities
- Potential support towards the Dispensing Optician course
- Opportunity to get involved with social media and the development of the practice
What Are They Looking For?
We’re looking for an experienced Optical Assistant who is confident working within a smaller independent environment.
You’ll ideally be:
- Experienced working within optics
- Confident with dispensing
- Friendly, personable and naturally good with patients
- Comfortable taking responsibility and using your initiative
- Organised and reliable
- Happy working as part of a small, close-knit team
- Interested in developing and taking on more responsibility
- Ideally experienced with tracing lenses and assembling spectacles
This is a role where personality and customer service are just as important as optical experience.
